Buswell Biomedical INC Report/Update

Date: August 23, 2024

1. Media and Public Engagements:

  • Invest Midwest Blog Interview: A few months ago, I participated in an interview for the Invest Midwest blog. Although I was informed that the blog would be released today, I have yet to see any updates or publication. I will follow up on this matter to ensure proper visibility.

  • Teach The Geek Podcast: This week, my interview on the "Teach The Geek" podcast was released. I will be sharing this with the team, as it offers valuable insights into our work and the challenges we face at Buswell Biomedical.

2. Prototype Development and Optimization:

  • UPMO Prototype: We are making progress on optimizing the UPMO (Universal Patient Mobility Object) prototype. Based on Don O’Brien’s recommendations, we are exploring the use of a CAN BUS system instead of a traditional motor controller. Additionally, Don suggested using an oscilloscope and other electrical components to refine our approach. As mechanical engineers, we are finding the transition into electrical engineering to be a slow and challenging process, but it’s providing valuable learning opportunities. This experience has reaffirmed my strengths in mechanical engineering and the career path I’ve chosen.

3. SBIR Grant Feedback and Action Plan:

  • Grant Review and Feedback: Dr. Zustiak and I reviewed the feedback from the NIH on our SBIR (Small Business Innovative Research) grant submission. Dr. Zustiak’s perspective on the feedback was both insightful and different from my initial thoughts. Following our meeting, I began taking steps to address the concerns raised. I will be coordinating with Davis and Erica to discuss the feedback and outline the actions we’re taking moving forward. A key takeaway was the need to improve communication regarding the functionality of the UPMO. To address this, I am collaborating with a graphic designer to create an easy-to-follow infographic that will clearly explain how the UPMO works.

  • Video Content Update: Although I found a video with the correct information, it features an outdated logo and some elements that are less than ideal. Despite these issues, the core content remains accurate and will be used as a reference for the infographic.

4. Upcoming Events:

  • GRIT Luncheon Panel: Next Wednesday, I will be participating in a panel discussion at the GRIT Luncheon. This event is associated with the book "GROWTH," to which I contributed. Although I agreed to participate nearly a year ago, I recently learned that the panel will be televised. If any team members are able to attend, please let me know.

5. Ongoing Initiatives:

  • Podcast Interviews: I continue to engage in podcast interviews, sharing our journey and progress at Buswell Biomedical. These interviews help to raise awareness and foster connections within the industry.

  • Prototype Progress: While the mechanical work on the UPMO prototype is complete, we are now in the optimization phase. Every day presents new learning opportunities as we refine and perfect the design. (below is one of many videos I have made)

6. Healthcare Needs Assessment:

  • Call for Input: I am currently working on understanding the full range of needs for healthcare workers and patients that our products may address. If anyone has insights or contacts who could provide valuable input, please reach out to me directly.

Conclusion: Buswell Biomedical is steadily advancing, both in terms of public engagement and technical development. While there are challenges, particularly in new areas of learning, we are making progress and continue to refine our approach. Your support and input remain crucial as we navigate these developments.
